Animal Crossing Bells Limit

  • The total number of Bells you can carry in Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Switch is limited. They say money cannot buy happiness – and in some ways, they are right. This is not going to happen. However, money is essential for the world to function, and this is no different in Animal Crossing's adorable world filled with animal friends. Early on in your New Horizons deserted island adventure, things are a little different than in previous Animal Crossing games – you really have no debt, as you repay Tom Nook for your airfare and original, simple lodgings using Nook Miles, the air miles and achievement-based currency that can also be used to purchase items such as additional inventory space. However, the moment you purchase a brick and mortar home, you will incur proper, inevitable debt.

For all the idiots on the internet demonize Tom Nook, it is not a bad deal in general – there is no interest, no debt collectors, and no pressure – but you will need to pay off your house before you can enlarge it to make more space for your things. And again... Once again, your Animal Crossing life will be as much about collecting items as it will be about making cool animal friends and relaxing. To do this, you'll need a large sum of money – or bells, as the currency is known.

Your wallet will hold a maximum of 99,999 AC Bells. Increase your collection or sell items that exceed the cap, and it will turn into money bags in your pockets. Although you are free to bring as many Bells as you want, you may want to consider storing them in the ABD banking system at the Nook Stop if you do not need them all at once.

To sort your Bells into bags (and then bury and build Money Trees, for example), click the X button to open your inventory.
Select the money in your pocket with your cursor and click A.
Divide your Bells into 100, 1,000, or 10,000 units, depending on your total.
The Bells will be added to your inventory, where they can be buried or dropped.
If you choose to combine different values, such as 20,000 Bells, you must first remove two stacks of 10,000 Bells and then use the A button to drag and drop them on top of one another. It's worth noting that stacks of 100 Bells do not stack with stacks of thousands.
